A new way of creating exams, ASSESS project

During the days 25 and 26 of November, the partners of the Erasmus+ project ASSESS met in Izmir, Turkey to advance in the future activities of the project. The project ASSESS has as its main objective the innovation in the assessment of the subject English through an Online Exam Creator.

This second transnational meeting, hosted by Nicea (Turkey) was focused on the platform “Online Exam Creator”.

The partners AEPC (Portugal), Learnmera Oy (Finland), Action Synergy (Greece), EMG (Germany) and Inercia Digital (Spain) decided changes to do in the structure of the platform, which is created by Inercia Digital. This platform is the main result of the project and will be presented to English teachers in Greece in December, where the learning activity for teachers will be hosted by Action Synergy.

The platform is divided into 4 parts:

  1. Ready-Made Exams: ready exams for downloading and printing. Teachers can find A1, A2 exams inside a huge range of 26 topics (Animals, countries, family, nature, toys…)
  2. Material Bank: In this section teachers can find flashcards, images, colouring pages and worksheets of the different topics.
  3. Exam Creator: Teachers can create their own exam and download it at the moment using this tool.
  4. Tools: In the last sections, useful tools for creation of exams or worksheets are shared.

Next 14, 15 and 16 of December, a training course for English teachers will be held in Athens, Greece. Teachers will learn different ways of assessment and will learn to use this platform.

Our training activity for English teachers will happen this summer!

Adapting ourselves to the current conditions because of COVID-19, yesterday we attended to an online meeting of the project #ASSESS. It was done to decide how to advance in the project taking advantage of the opportunities that technologies and teleworking offer us. We are working on the development of 50 English exams to assess communicative skills of General Education EFL students.

Kick-off meeting of the European project ASSESS focused on the innovation of assessment techniques in English as Foreign Language

The transnational kick-off meeting of the Erasmus+ project KA2 ASSESS took place on the 13th and 14th of February in Viseu, Portugal. The aim of this project is innovating the assessment techniques in English during Primary Education by producing an online test creator that will allow teachers to download materials to evaluate English as a Foreign Language.

This project is formed by a partnership of six countries: Agrupamento de Escolas de Penalva do Castelo (Portugal), Learnmera Oy (Finland), Inercia Digital S.L. (Spain), Bursa Eğitim ve Gençlik Derneği (Turkey), ACTION SYNERGY SA (Greece) and Education Mobility Grid (Germany). Some of these countries are known for their good teaching techniques of foreign languages.

The reason why this project was created is the poor effectiveness of traditional assessments techniques, such as paper and pencil tests, in reflecting students’ learning potential. They result in a lack of the communicative proficiency that is essential for language skills.

Four main targets are established:

  1.   Effective teaching and assessment methods of foreign languages by using ICT.
  2.   Choice of quality products in language assessment, identifying the best way of responding to teaching needs.
  3.   Use of available products either as an alternative or as an integration to traditional tools.
  4.   Creation of new educational and training products that exploit the new technologies’ potential.

Four products will be implemented to achieve these objectives: a report of the curriculum of teaching English as foreign language in the different countries, a database for the online test maker, an online test maker, an assessment scale and a guide for teachers.

It is expected that the products of the project remain as a tool for improving the assessment methods and techniques for the student body in Primary Education.
